So What's New?
SubD Creases create a feature between a smooth and a sharp edge, without adding complexity to the SubD control net, great for making fillet-like features.
Now you can cut objects using the improved Gumball in Rhino 8, as well as quickly Move, Rotate, Scale, Copy, & Extrude geometry without typing commands or clicking a toolbar button. This makes the Gumball a versatile direct modeling tool for concept modeling interior & exterior architectural forms, jewelry, furniture, SciFi models, and working with SubD objects.
ShrinkWrap in Rhino 8 creates a watertight mesh around open or closed meshes, NURBS geometry, SubD, and point clouds: ideal for creating meshes for 3D printing. ShrinkWrap is ideal for creating meshes for 3D printing, meshes without internal self-intersections, and offset mesh shells (eg: hollow objects).
With its extensive library of materials, advanced lighting, & camera controls, Rhino 8 quickly creates beautiful images for your presentations. Whether you are an architect, designer, engineer, or artist, Rendering in Rhino brings your models to life.Â
For industrial designers who need to create self-lit objects commonly found in consumer electronics. The new emissive materials in the Rhino 8 render engine make objects glow & cast light onto other objects. Emissive Materials allow you to simulate LEDs and create bloom effects.Â
Rhino for Mac is now faster than ever on Intel and Apple Silicon Macs. Powered by Metal, our new display pipeline delivers hardware-accelerated graphics for high frame rates and large resolutions. Depending on your model, speed increases can be 24 times or more.
A complete rewrite, on Windows & Mac, including all new features including a new search bar is available at the top of the Layers panel. The Search Bar provides a more manageable approach when working with models containing a large number of layers.Â
Real-time viewport display modes in Rhino 8 are fast and use modern graphics hardware features, like GPU-sensitive shaders & memory optimizations. Features include extremely fast 3D graphics, unlimited viewports, shaded, working views, perspective working views, named views, floating views, full-screen display, draw order support, two‑point perspective, clipping planes, and one-to-one scale to view models at full size. Customizable viewport display modes produce stunning, high-resolution output images at interactive frame rates…. More Info…
Clipping and sectioning enhancements to help support various drafting and fabrication workflows. Clipping allows you to slice through your design, turning off the display of parts of the model. Now with Selective Clipping, you can choose a subset of objects and layers to clip. You can even set a custom depth to isolate a specific part. With complex models, this focuses communication where it matters most. Clipping planes can be used to extract sections through your model to use in prototyping and fabrication processes such as laser cutting. You can also extract slices of a big model to fabricate using CNC routers or 3D printers. Flat cut processes such as laser cutting require you to extract parallel cuts through your model, label them, and lay them on a flat sheet.
The Surface Fillet commands allow you to create rational and non-rational fillets between two surfaces or a surface and a curve. While FilletEdge needs an edge to make a fillet, Surface Fillets do not depend on joined geometry. This allows for a more flexible setup of base surfaces that get later connected by fillets. Users can now cut geometry using the new Gumball. FilletEdge fillets are editable, and edibility persists on copies of filleted polysurfaces. Inset offsets edges inward on a mesh, SubD, or polysurface face: an easy way to make sub-faces that can be PushPulled to define a concept in a few clicks. Hundreds of minor bugs have been fixed, and many disparate commands have been consolidated into single commands, making Rhino much more refined… More Info…
