Sir, one, no two questions? How do I refer to you when posting and asking here? Do you have a name or do I just write hi there :)? And second, I am a mac user and am indecisive about purchasing a PC laptop with windows 8.1 and the whole works or install Rhino on my iMac. I still have not been able to decide. It is said bootcamp lessens the capacity and performance of the iMac. Do you have any suggestion that may help me decide? Thanx and kind regards
Hi, it’s Rik. We have many customers running Windows on their MAC computers via bootcamp. So yes, you can run Windows on your iMac. Windows will run faster on newer iMac’s, so I’d recommend a computer that is 2-3 years old as RhinoGold requires the 64-bit version of Windows and that only works on newer computers using Intel Core i3 processors or higher (eg: 2010 27 inch Apple iMac’s use an Intel Core i3 processor, it will work on some older iMac’s but you should check via Apple or the Apple/Windows forums). I would recommend min 8Gb RAM, even 12-16Gb if you can afford/upgrade it. The only way BootCamp lessens the capacity of the iMac is that it allocates a portion of the hard disk drive to Windows – you only require 50-100Gb for RhinoGold so that is not too much. I am not aware of Bootcamp lessening the performance on the iMac, I don’t believe that it does. The main problem with Apple computers is that they don’t all come with a dedicated video card like the nVidia card which is recommend for 3D work, photo-realistic rendering, etc. I guess you can always look at purchasing a PC Laptop later on.
